The data is stored elsewhere away from the logon servers for safety of content. I read that some where on the web all wow servers and game servers keep the data and game server separate from the log on servers. in fact the log on servers are a service they rent located miles form the game servers and data servers.

Show this to my GF all she kept saying was why are the DataCenter's so close to each other.

 

Let's hope for the best, only good news so far was no life was lost in this incident and hope there is no need to use backups and all of our data is ok and safe just waiting for a little restart.
