how is it possible for one of europe's largest (and richest) hosts to fail to handle a fire and lose an entire datacenter? Do they have Homer Simspon working on safety? I guess he was eating his donuts when everything caught fire

Ensuring security is not that simple. In the past, data centers were constantly staffed and all kinds of control were provided manually. In current technology, autonomous systems are heavily trusted, but unfortunately the system can fail.

As it stated here https://www.theregister.com/2021/03/10/ovh_strasbourg_fire/ they should provide some investigation. Modern data centers suppose to handle the fire. If it's uncontrol fire as their CEO announced today, it def the luck/ignore of some safety protocols.

Well... The CEO clearly stated one of the serverhalls were completely destroyed, and I just saw a picture of it burned down so.. Not sure what you mean there..

Good question. Migth aswell be any of the different buildings there, as I suspect they cut the energy to them all when the fire started. Let's hope for the best.
