addons being deleted by developers

8 posts in this topic

It seems like some developers delete older versions of their addons from sites that generally archive old versions. I was trying to get tldr missions and venture plan addons but the old versions have been scrubbed from all the sites I could find. The best I found was a site that kept version history but the downloads were removed for versions prior to 10.0.0. It seems private servers may have to be more proactive in saving old addons or they may be lost forever or very hard to find.

Yeah, i've noticed this as well, i got my hands on venture plan and betterwardrobeandtransmog before it got deleted. They all got removed on the same say as firestorm launched 9.2.7

I've uploaded BetterWardrobeAndTransmog to the Firestorm AddOn page => https://firestorm-servers.com/en/addons/detail/347

If you need Venture Plan, i can upload it as well.

Thanks. Yeah I did see a compliment download that improves it but wasn't that mostly for the older versions that weren't being updated? I know it was updated again right before 10.0.0 patch but people complained tldr was better at missions at that point.

Found a Chinese (I think) site that has old versions. I clicked blindly until I found tldr downloads. Easier way would be to google translate the site but the layout was like Curseforge so I found it by just knowing where to click to navigate the site. Is the stuff there safe? No idea but I installed TLDR Missions for 9.2.7 and it seems to be working.

Curseforge still keeps older ones but like you say, it might be the devs forcing deletes. Silly really, as the private server players are probably just as large in numbers as retail.

I just quit retail. Dragonflight was boring as heck. I lasted one single month. One month. Blizzard upped the RNG and timegating to a whole new level in DF. Proffs have been made so ridiculously confusing it now takes spread sheets to figure out what to do and what to level. Mats have multiple levels of grade to further their RNG aims. I got the story done and that was it. I am done. Ill wait till next xpac and play here till then. I like this place. Most things seem to work and the playerbase is large enough to do content with randoms.

I set older versions of TLDRMissions to be force deleted on curseforge due to being inundated with tickets where it turned out the user's addon manager was installing older versions for no apparent reason. This was during a time when there were around 10 different new addon managers on the market trying to become the big curseforge replacement. Making the old versions get deleted was the easiest way to stop those tickets that I effectively had no control over.

I can manually undelete the last version compatible with 9.2 to make it available on curseforge again, but it won't have any of the features I developed since Dragonflight, or any of the tuning fixes.
